The East Saguaro Sunset Dinner Ride...   Ride with GPS map

This ride takes in the sunset from the Cactus Forest Overlook at 5:48 PM with the moon rising at 5:58 PM.  We will complete the loop, then have happy hour and dinner at the Saguaro Corners Restaurant at 7:00 PM.

There will be two ride options:

  • Start in the East Saguaro parking lot at 4:20 PM, ride the 8-mile loop, then join the 2nd group starting at 5:20.
  • Start in the East Saguaro parking lot at 5:20 PM for the sunset ride.  We will not be riding a moonlight lap.
  • You must register separately for the Dinner Event as seating is limited.

Ride Notes:

  • For safety reasons, I recommend you park in the Saguaro National Park parking lot and then drive to Saguaro Corners after the ride.  If the parking lot is full. you can use the service road that is inside the gate for overflow parking.  The gate into the park is not closed until 8:30 and it has been reconfirmed it will re-open automatically if it happens to be closed upon departure.
  • Both the 4:20 PM and 5:20 PM rides will meet just inside the entry booth (where you show your pass), not at the ramada where we typically regroup.  You can do both loops or just the sunset loop at 5:20.
  • A pass is required but there may not be anyone at the booth.  Check with others if you don't have a pass as 4 people may enter under one pass.
  • Both rides will start promptly at the designated start times and riders will ride at their own pace.  Faster riders riding the first loop can also do the out and back to the picnic area, if desired.   SW winds of 12-15 mph are expected but may be diminished within the park.
  • We will view the sunset at the Cactus Forest Overlook.  This is the 2nd outlook you pass on the lefthand side about 1.7 miles in.  You can view as much of the sunset as desired and then continue with the last 6 miles.  There should be sufficient light to finish the loop but be equipped with lights as a precaution.
  • The official sunset time is 5:48. This is essentially the time the sun disappears based on a flat horizon.
  • Our table at Saguaro Corners restaurant will be outside.  Check in under Cactus Cycling or Mark Mench.  We have asked for separate checks and the servers may begin to take orders as people flow in.  Please review the menu in advance to streamline the ordering process.
  • Have fun!
