    The San Xavier Event Ride...  Ride with GPS map


    This ride takes in the beautiful San Xavier Mission along some country roads. San Xavier Mission is a National Historic Landmark and was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. The oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings.

    Terrain: Medium Hills and one short steep one for the B ride.  No steep hill for the milder option

    The B ride will go out to Saddlebrooke via Tangerine, Innovation, Rancho  Vistoso, Oracle and Eagle Crest Ranch Roads.   Then up the hill on Catalina Hills Rd, then wander through the back part of Saddlebrooke on nice smooth roads.   A stop at the store, then return.  We will return via Clubhouse Dr and Edwin Rd. to Columbus and Twin Lakes Rd., enjoying the new pavement on Columbus and Twin Lakes.

    Today we visit the southern Arizona towns of Patagonia, Sonoita, and Elgen.  Patagonia is named after the nearby mountains and its formation is credited to Civil War veteran and rancher R. R. Richardson who began to develop a portion of his ranch where a new railroad crossed Sonoita Creek.

    The East Saguaro Sunset Dinner Ride...   Ride with GPS map



    This ride takes in the sunset from the Cactus Forest Overlook at 5:47 PM with the moon rising at 5:58 PM.  We will complete the loop, then have happy hour and dinner at the Saguaro Corners Restaurant at 7:00 PM.

    There will be two ride options:

    • Start in the East Saguaro parking lot at 4:30 PM, ride the 8-mile loop, then join the 2nd group starting at 5:30.
    • Start in the East Saguaro parking lot at 5:30 PM for the sunset ride.  We will not be riding a moonlight lap.
    • You must register separately for the Dinner Event as seating is limited.  There is a separate event for Dinner.

    Notes:

    • You can park in the East Saguaro Park parking lot.  The entry gates close at sunset, but they open automatically on exit.  You can drive or walk to the East Saguaro Corners Restaurant.
    • Bring front and rear lights for the sunset lap.

    The iconic Kitt Peak Ride...   Ride with GPS map 

    Today we tackle the ascent of Kitt Peak, a 12-mile climb.  Kitt Peak is rated as the third hardest climb in Arizona and 130th in the US.   Meet at the 386 turnoff in the dirt parking lot.

    Socialize with a tailgate party after the ride.

    • Water and restrooms will be available at the summit.  The gift shop is open with snacks and drinks.
    • Bring special drinks or treats to share in a "tailgate party" after the descent.
    • The nearest food is 15 miles East at the Three Points intersection at the junction of 286.
    • Add 30 miles by starting your ride at Three Points and meeting the group at the official start.
    • The 12-mile climb averages 5.7%.  34% of the climb is between 0 and 5%,  60% is between 5 and 10%, and the steepest section is 8.7% (see below).

    Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup


    A fun social time and a very good cause. If you are new to this, please give it a try – the more the merrier, and the faster it will go. Meet up across from Market Tito's.

    Brueggers Coffee and Bagels available at 8:30 AM – we start walking at 9 AM.  Trash bags, vests, and disposable gloves will be provided – please bring your own pick-up grabbers if you have them; jeans and hiking boots recommended. Bring friends (older than 16) and we prefer no dogs. We will have a gift card for the most bizarre trash item found.

    One group will cover the left side of the highway starting from the shopping center and going north, then loop back at Harrison Rd to walk southbound to cover the other side of the highway. A second group will drive to Harrison Rd, pickup along the left side until reaching Houghton Rd, then loop back walking southbound to cover the other side of the highway. This keeps everyone “facing traffic” as we walk (see map below0.

    Sign-in at the event will include a Pima Country waiver form.

    Today we visit Parker Canyon Lake via Sonoita.  This is a beautiful remote lake just 5 miles from the Mexican border.  It was created from a dam built by the Forest Service after an agreement was reached with Amado rancher George Parker who donated the land.

    Ride Notes:

    • You will cross a border check point just before Sonoita.  If you are not a US citizen, bring your passport just in case.
    • Please park in the north side the parking lot in front of the Steak Out restaurant.   
    • There is a restroom in the Chevron in the parking lot.  You may want to purchase something if you use it.
    • There are no services along the route but there will be a Marina store at the lake.
    • There is no shoulder for most of the route but traffic should be minimal.
